Over the weekend, I saw C.ouple's Re.treat with some friends while visiting in Charlotte. First off, the theater we went to was AMAZING. There was this whole bar/club set up outside (cue electronic music). Even though clearly I wasn't cool enough for this club, it was still pretty wild. Huge, oversized pictures of old Hollywood movie stars lined the walls, and there were couches and lounge areas - tres posh. You could get your adult beverages and just cart them into the theater with you. The seats were also sold like a concert venue...you don't just pay admission, you actually choose your seats! The seats had small tables and cup holders, and reclined (somewhat) and were a bit larger than traditional movie seats. Overall, the theater gets a A+.
The movie was cute too. I pretty much adore V.ince V.aughn and J.on F.avreau - I think they are both brilliant, especially together. And Ja.son Bat.eman and Kri.stin B.ell were hilarious too. The movie was entertaining, but the first half was definetly funnier than the latter half. There was a lot of build up (and humor) leading in, then towards the middle of the movie, I guess the directors realized oh, shit, this has to end soon, we better start wrapping things up. So all the random conflicts were amicably and predictibly resolved neatly. There were some very funny parts, and over all, I enjoyed the film. I would watch it again on cable. In time.
Now, the reason I say I would watch it later - the whole movie kind of hit home for me. In the movie, Ja.son Ba.teman and Kri.stin Be.ll are married, and they try to encourage their group of friends to join them on a trip to a couples resort to try to work out their relationship issues. Their issues have to do with the fact that they have been trying to concieve for a year, and not getting anywhere, and looking at divorce. That part kind of stung. Not the divorce part, but I know what it's like to deal with the pressure month after month, and to think they were just throwing in the towel after a year was just kind of discouraging.
I know, I know, it's a movie, not real life, and certainly not MY life (beleive me...I might be singing a VERY different tune if I was vacationing in Bora Bora!). It's just another example of how IF attaches to every facet of my life. (End rant)
