Today, or I should say tonight, rather, as I trudge through my front door after 9pm, with fast food in hand (who am I kidding, I'm not cooking), I am thankful and grateful for my job.
Yes, it sucks this time of year, every year. But I enjoy what I do for the most part, I work with some really great people who are kind and understanding, and try to maintain an upbeat office environment (which is really tricky in accounting). I have more freedom to come and go for doctors appointments, or even appointments to meet the cable guy, than most people have with their jobs. My bosses are approachable, and have helped to teach me that even the person at the top of the totem pole is not above doing the grunt work. I get paid for my overtime, which means the time I spend away from family and friends is rewarded, and most importantly, my hard work is rewarded. I have been fortunate to have been with the same company for almost 8 years, and I have learned so much, not only about my profession, but about how a small business works, about navigating tricky client interactions, and also how to manage the whole work/life balance. I couldn't imagine spending the last 8 years with a different set of people or in a different working environment. Some days, I am sure I complain and act generally unenthused with my job, but I am very happy and content, and I appreciate the generosity and opportunity to continue to stay with my current company.
Wow. That first entry wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! Here's to sticking to my Lenten promise!
