Hey, ya'll. Sorry for the long break in posts. I was gone for Family Beach Week, and I had a good time spending some QT with my family. Also, the Hubs was hogging the computer whenever he could (I swear, I am an online-poker widow), so I didn't get to post much. My fabulous family threw me a baby shower. I turned 29 (groan). And of course, there were other things going on. In addition to all that, my father unfortunately had to miss all but the last day of the vacation because his dad, my grandfather, was very sick. Unfortunately, he passed away on Saturday morning, so I just wanted to give him a little shout out.
This picture is from Beach Week in 2008 - it's Grandpa and all the grandkids. Obviously, Grandpa is the older gentleman in the center. He really enjoyed being around all of us, especially as a big family (he was proud, plus, we're all very good looking...can you blame him?), and his stories were mostly entertaining, even if you couldn't exactly understand them through his thick NY accent.
Grandma and Grandpa
It was very strange the way things went down though. MyDad had to miss most of the vacation, due to being out in Oklahoma with his father. Grandpa was already on morphine and being read last rights. But for whatever reason, he was hanging on. MyDad finally decided to come back to VA on Thursday and head to the beach to see the rest of the family on Friday. He was awaiting any news or change in his father's condition. Now, our family has a little bit of a Beach Week Curse. Something tragic (more times than not) has happened at Beach Week (someone passes away, someone gets very sick, etc.). On Saturday morning, we all hugged and said good-byes, and headed our separate ways, with my dad still clutching his cell phone, waiting for some information. As my parents were pulling into the gas station before leaving town, MyDad got the call from his stepsister that Grandpa had passed a few minutes earlier. While we were all saying good-bye to eachother. Grandpa had waited until Beach Week was officially over before letting go. Strange, but weird. MyDad says Grandma (his stepmother) is doing well, and is a rock. I'm still thinking of my family, and hope that my thoughts and prayers are enough to help MyDad and Grandma get through this time.
Aw, I'm so sorry KP! I'll keep you and your grandfather in my prayers this week. I'll mentally stick you guys into the "pray for N. and N." part of the mass next week.
ReplyDeleteIt's sweet that he held on until everyone had said their goodbyes. I think you're right, there's something to that.
Awww man, that sucks. I'm so sorry to hear bout your grandpop. You and your fam are in my thoughts, prayers and all that good stuff.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right, what a large group of unusually attractive people :) And tan too.
Glad you had fun, I missed you. Is that weird?
