Reaping All The Benefits

So, the Hubs has the extraordinary opportunity to work from home.  Yes, I am jealous.  But, since he's spending more time in the house, he has also been taking on some of the burden on housework, cleaning, laundry, etc.  He's trying, and I am attempting to teach.  It's like a home ec class in my house.   But it's been the best thing ever.

Tuesday, I left work in the middle of the day to come home in the afternoon for a bit (that's a whole other, separate story).  I walk in, and he was re organizing his home office.  There was furniture everywhere, papers, computers taken apart, et cetera.  A huge mess.  I didn't say anything, gave him a kiss, and went back to work.  My whole afternoon was filled with anxiety because I was afraid of the nightmare that awaited me at home.

To my surprise, I came home, the office was all cleaned up!  We sat down in the office, and spent some time organizing a few last things.  The Hubs then suggested we clean the guest room.

Now, understand, our bedroom closet is too small for my extensive wardrobe (don't get jealous, it's mostly t-shirts and jeans, not fun fancy clothes).  Our bedroom is also too small for any kind of dresser, so all our clothes are housed in the closets.  After moving in, I took over the closet in the guest room, because it's huge, and sliding closed doors are mirrored, so it just made sense.  The room has become a giant changing room for me, except with out the salesperson who hangs everything up.  Usually, it gets super messy - clothes strewn about everywhere (from trying on and changing my mind, you know what I am talking about).  Also added to the mess were bags of the few Christmas gifts I did buy, half unpacked suitcases from recent (last month) travel, shoes, blankets and bed linens from the last time we had houseguests (Halloween), you get the point.

The Hubs jumped right in with me, and we managed to get the room to a very organized and clean state before 10:30 pm.  I was super impressed.  I am also impressed with myself, I managed to get rid of some clothes and shoes into the Goodwill pile, and parted with some knick-knacks I had been holding on to.  Do I really need my sorority composite photo from 2000?  No, I do not.  Yes, it was like the TV show Hoarders.  No, there weren't any dead cats.  I was so thankful he was there to help me with that project.  I had been wanting to get it done, but the whole thing was just too overwhelming for me to even start.

THEN, there's the cooking.  Monday night, the Hubs was inspired to cook for me.  I have been teaching him how to cook for the past few weeks, how to prepare all the ingredients before you start, how to chop onions and dry meat, the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon.  Well, Monday night, I got to be the sous chef while he prepared Shrimp and Snow Peas in Green Curry.  Delicious.  I was super impressed, and I love when we're in the kitchen together - he's learning about something I love to do (cook), we get to spend some time together, and I get to play director, and kind of tell him what to do/play director (after the water boils, add the rice).  Last night, after I got home from my RESOLVE meeting, he made me Pan Seared Chicken Breasts in a Mushroom Cream Sauce.  I made sauteed spinach and Texas Toast.  Who doesn't love Texas Toast?  I have been super spoiled, and I am so appreciative of everything he has done lately, and for the awesome help I am getting around the house.

PLUS, I get all this delicious food!  I'd say it's clearly a win-win situation!
